Immigration of Phillip and Chaie Esther Wexler's family to America from Ekatrinaslav (present day Dnieperpetrovsk, or Dnipro) in Ukraine during the Russian pogroms  in 1904 resulted in near tragedy when the ship carrying Chaie Esther and their three children sank after hitting a reef west of the Scottish coast.
